history of north berwick

The North Berwick golf course was founded in 1832.

The town itself has laid out a "Golf Heritage" walking trail (get route map from the tourist information), and plaques have been placed on numerous houses to show where many famous golfers were born and grew up. It is obvious from this tour that golfers from North Berwick over the last century or so have influenced golf all over the world as they have become professionals in clubs in America, Germany and elsewhere.
