Prestwick is a traditional 18 hole links course. Championship
6544 yards. Par 71 SSS: 73.
Prestwick Golf Club was founded in 1851 and hosted
the first Open Championship
in 1860. The winner was Willie Park from
Musselburgh with a score of 174 for 36 Holes, 2 shots clear
of "Old" Tom Morris.
Prestwick hosted the first 11 Championships. The last Open
Championship to be played there was in 1925 when Jim Barnes
from USA won.
A stone cairn, which you will find to the
west of the Clubhouse, marks the first tee of the original
12 hole course on which the first Open was played. If you
are interested in Golf History, the Pro Shop at Prestwick
sells some very interesting prints and photographs of the
Original Open Course.
